In search of: plus size vintage

twin-set

Daydream Lily posted about Renee and Angela’s new venture, {twin set}, which is an online vintage fashion store with some really gorgeous pieces. If you are bigger than an AU size 18, you might have discovered that plus size vintage is pretty scarse. As a result, I am so used to dismissing straight sized fashion because it does not apply to me; however, this morning I was stuck on the idea of finding gorgeous plus size vintage garments so I have been trawling through etsy. Here are a few finds of my own:

Happy birthday Amanda

Have a fancy day

Today is my sister’s birthday! I made her a head piece out of a remnant of sky blue satin and drew her this card. Sometimes I think it’d be a lot easier if I just bought presents from the shops!

Happy birthday Manda.

Daww, Stanley!

Annnnd I wanted to leave a photo of her dog, Stanley. He is adorable but such a troublemaker!

The lady who attends Tupperware parties

tupperware ootd

Saturday was a big day, with a Tupperware party and two footy games on the big plasma tv at my sister’s. I’m not really into footy, so I decided to kick into frou frou mode for the Tupperware party to spite the cloying masculinity of the day, where I was recruited into holding one of my own so Michelle could get free stuff. It’s what sisters apparently do!

Top: Bonds
Dress: Evans
Tights: Now (Kmart)
Shoes: Target
Headpiece: Made by me

Tupperware party

I’ve been working hard on a bunch of little accessories made out of reclaimed materials. This headpiece was originally a tie! In addition to headpieces I’m working on moustache necklaces as well as other leather and lace pieces, but I’m not sure where I should sell these. Etsy? Big Cartel? My own little web shop? I don’t know, help me please!

One last thing – if you take photos of your outfits, or you want to start, you should join weardrobe.com. I’m over here!

I love typography

mucking around

I bought some books from Book Depository the other week and two of them were typography related, Mike Perry’s Hand Job and The Handy Book of Artistic Printing. I really relish these books because I don’t often by them for myself, and I’d been eying them for a while! As a result, all I can think about is lettering and typography right now and I wanted to share with you my favourite lettering and typography artists.

How do you take your tea?

Tea date

I went into South Bank to meet Ms Rósek and have tea at Tlicious.

Dress: Basque Woman
Tights: Kmart
Shoes: Spendless
Brooch: gift

Lamb brooch!

This is the brooch – a vintage lamb from an old uni friend. She also gave me a red pony, but I’ve lost it in my drawers of clothes!

I love things

Alex gave me a very adorable tea set too!

Fanciful Friday: Random fancy

⇒ My friend Pete posted this video on twitter yesterday, it’s just gorgeous!

⇒ I said it on tumblr, and I’ll say it here: So fancy it makes my eyes water. Via Design*Sponge.

⇒ Lady Agnew by John Singer Sargent. I saw a few of Sargent’s paintings last Friday night, in the flesh!

⇒ Now that I have my Nana’s display cabinet here, I can start saving up so I can collect tea cups like this one from Vandelized Vintage! (Gifts of said tea cups always graciously accepted, teehee!)

⇒ This is by Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir… and one day I want to do my hair like this. Incredible.

⇒ I have no information on this photo. All I know is that it’s the fanciest thing on earth.

Might I ask a favour?

You might remember this from when I wrote about entering this piece in the Red Bubble/ Stefen Sagmeister collaboration; it’s open for voting now and if it’s not too out of your way, I would love you to vote for me!

Thank you!

Duststorm in Brisbane, 12.30pm

Yesterday a huge dust storm covered the eastern side of Australia, thanks to winds picking up most of the drought-stricken inland and dumping it all over us. Yay Australia! I went out on a few little walks to take photos, but had to stay inside in the afternoon because the dust was making it very hard to breathe.

Brisbane 10.30am

This is what it was like at 10:30am – the skyline is typically clearly visible on a normal day.

At 12:30pm – no skyline for you!

Hello dustocalypse!

Today it seems to have cleared completely, but we still have a bit of dust inside our house :(

Save handwriting!

confession

This quote from Drawn! makes me sad:

The decline of cursive is happening as students are doing more and more work on computers, including writing. In 2011, the writing test of the National Assessment of Educational Progress will require 8th and 11th graders to compose on computers, with 4th graders following in 2019. Handwriting is increasingly something people do only when they need to make a note to themselves rather than communicate with others, she said. Students accustomed to using computers to write at home have a hard time seeing the relevance of hours of practicing cursive handwriting.

Considering I do a lot of hand lettering, you’d think it should put me in a good position to make $$$$$! I can only hope :D

In related news: (If you do what you love every day EVERYTHING is related!) I just got my copy of Mike Perry’s Hand Job this morning and spent a lovely hour browsing through all of the amazing typography. Dear Mike Perry, pls include me in your illustrious subset of illustrators and graphic designers.
