Hello, many apologies for the late desktop but it is here now! This month’s desktop is the result of many hours of mindless doodling, and inspired by a billion things going on in my life. When I’ve got heavy things on the mind I have my own version of meditating – obsessively tiny doodling. I’ve been so flat out I hadn’t really planned anything for this month’s desktop so I though using my doodlings would fairly accurately reflect where I’m at right now

I think I was in a picnic mood while designing February’s desktop. Maybe I’ll make all my friends drive up to Mt Nebo where we can eat cupcakes, look out to the bay and pretend we live in the mountains and not in the city.

Overnight I had an email from Casey asking me for instructions for the Rotring Rapidograph and I thought I’d upload the scans that Kate took for me to assist all the other Rapidograph owners out there that have pens without instructions!

Here we go, back at January. I can’t quite believe I’ve already done a year of these, but when I had to go and make a new folder for January it hit me quite shockingly. I have learnt a lot in the last year, and that’s exactly the way I like it. I hope next January finds me even further along in terms of my creative work and personally too, of course!

I hope desktop number 12 finds you well, it’s the culmination of a whole year in my creative practice and a milestone of commitment for me. At the beginning of the year I had the idea to do monthly desktops on a whim but I’m really proud of myself for sticking with it because I have learnt so much and used the exercise as a way to explore my own visual language.

People have asked me if I’ll continue doing these desktops in 2010, and you know what? I probably will. I’ve thought about doing other regular and ongoing projects, but none of the ideas I’ve come up with have really been as practical and useful as monthly desktops! Thank you so much if you’ve used my desktops throughout the year, I always feel an odd mixture of pride and embarrassment when I see them on people’s computers and phones.

The jacaranda trees are blooming here and they always remind me of being in primary school. We used to collect the least squished flowers from the ground, thread them on twigs and present purple wands to our teachers and mothers. I remember all my exercise books so fondly, and how I’d doodle in them all through high school and university (even now!) November’s desktop is just a little indulgence in childhood, really… and a reminder that everyone should doodle!

September is a month I always seem to look forward to, and not for any particular reason… it’s just that the weather is nice, friends have lovely social gatherings, people sing songs about September and it’s all just rather agreeable, really!

For this month’s wallpaper I listened to the people, namely Mem, who asked for the little sections back so they can compulsively sort their icons. I admit I hadn’t been doing it because I completely forgot – one month I totally left out the calendar too! If you can forgive me for being forgetful, I can give you a desktop with 100% more little sections for your desktop icons than last month’s.
