It’s been a rough few months and the opportunity to hang my work besides the lovely likes of Courtney Brims, Lilly Piri, Beci Orpin and Bec Winnel was so spirit lifting! (Yes, yes, this is my daggy “You really like me!!!” moment!)

Tonight was the launch party and I was accompanied by Nick and Zoe. I won’t lie, I dread opening nights for art shows and stuff because I get really anxious. I’ve just started medication again this week to address said anxiousness and the first couple of weeks is usually really not fabulous so I was glad to have the company of my people. Especially because today was very not fabulous in the old brain area. Unfortunately tonight’s outing was soured when we were egged, and I copped most of it in my hair and on my polka dot dress. People can be real jerks. If I’d wanted to do a protein treatment I would have done it myself douchebags!

After all my talk about taking time to do personal work, I’ve not really even had the time to do that. I have done a lot of sketching and doodling throughout the last few months, but in recent weeks my brain has told me to shut down and focus on myself and drawing. Some pretty crap things have happened and these are a reflection on my responses to these things, they are pretty honest and raw.

It’s interesting seeing how other people react to my drawings, a few people have told me how visceral their response is and how the feel attached in some way. Other people’s feelings aren’t so fond, instead they are prompted to defend something (like longstanding assumptions.)

I know that I can’t be alive and be me without drawing. Mark-making grounds me and helps me feel connected to the world. Sometimes I struggle to understand where I fit in within “art” and being pretty horrified by how capitalism corrupts and hurts people I am also suspicious of even trying to do proper “art” within the proper “art” world. I guess I’m happy doodling in the margins. ;)

Though, sometimes people do let me put my drawings on their walls! Here’s a list of places where you can witness this rare and precious thing in the next few weeks:

The Finders Keepers are coming back for the Brisbane Spring/ Summer markets and I was asked to design the poster!

The Brisbane markets will take place on November 6 and 7 at The Old Museum. Applications for stalls are still open at the moment, so if you want to go sell [...]]]> Poster I designed for the Finders Keepers markets in Brisbane - clusters of paisley filled with blue and peach watercolour surround a woodgrain background. "The Finders Keepers" is hand lettered in a light blue.

The Finders Keepers are coming back for the Brisbane Spring/ Summer markets and I was asked to design the poster!

The other bit of awesome news I have to share is that my piece La Donna Mascherata was accepted into the 2010 Curvy book. It’s a big deal to me because I was amongst 75 artists from 38 countries picked out of 2300 submissions by Fafi and Sarah Lerfel (from Colette; and the wonderful Deanne Cheuk is doing the layout too!

Once again, I will throw myself to the lions, errr selection panel, but I’m having a tiny crisis about what I should submit for consideration for next year’s book. I know that lots of people really like my typographic pieces but there are some other more illustrative pieces that I am fond of too. So, if you could choose three, which would you choose?
