I was mucking around the other day with cloning myself and here is the result of that. I think we all need to tell ourselves to get out there and werq it at some stage!! What’s funny about this picture? No hair or make up done, and a completely hilarious outfit consisting of things I’d probably never wear together. Sometimes you’ve just gotta make a fool out of yourself :D

You may have noticed that I’ve been super busy and maybe a little bit patchy with the blogging recently but I’m trying not to beat myself up over it. It’s just that things have to give way when stuff is happening, and I have to recognise that I’m not Super Awesome At Being Everything To Everyone Girl. One of the things that I had to put on hiatus was drawing for the zine, but this afternoon I wasn’t feeling very good so I went to bed with my sketchbook.

The volume of statements people have contributed is huge and big and overwhelming so I’ve been trying to think of ways I can cut down on the number of pages and the amount of time it’ll take me to illustrate everything. I’m not really sure what the word for it is, but I experienced a moment of [insert that word there] when I read Mel Stringer‘s Telephone & Me zine. (Side note: you should buy one, I felt so emotional reading it!) Mel’s compiled illustrations she’s done which kind of read like diary entries. The sketchy/ doodly approach really appealed to me so I thought I’d stop being such a perfectionist and do some of the statements as quick sketches. So I did that and I’m very happy with them! These snaps are just a couple of my favourites.

After going to TEDxBrisbane and seeing Dallas Clayton’s video on publishing “An Awesome Book” I have been feeling inspired to self publish a book. I’ve also been reading a few old zines, the FaT GiRL zines from the 90s in particular, and I thought I’d start out by publishing a zine on body image – your body image.

So, I put up a question on a Google Form: Tell me about your body in 10 words or less.

Lots of people have contributed their statements already! Some of them are sad, some are funny, but all of them speak to me of honesty and struggle.

So, how do you feel about your body? You can contribute too. You don’t have to put your real name, but a name is nice because I can illustrate your words and then attribute those words to you. The end product will be an A5 sized zine – I am yet to figure out the details, but I hope to have enough interest in the book to have it colour printed. I will also make the zine available online for free.

The book is full of fantastic illustrative and photographic work from a huge variety of artists – I was really impressed with it, and myself for being published alongside such great names!

Tabitha actually sent me my issue of Forth Thread the other week, but I hadn’t gotten around to blogging about it. You’ll have to excuse its rumpled demeanor, Australia Post must have handled this with their elbows!!

Hey, it’s one of my drawings in lovingly hand printed zine format! I drew this for Rand’s zine “Everything’s Okay, I Drew This For You”. I knew of Rand through Eat Sleep Draw and added him as a friend of flickr. When I saw he was plotting this zine and asking for submissions I had to draw something because I liked the idea so much! The drawing is one of my most popular, with a staggering amount of favourites on flickr… it’s amazing how many people like it!
